West Ham-linked Matheus Pereira set to join Al Hilal

West Ham are set to miss out on West Brom attacker Matheus Pereira with him on the cusp of joining Al Hilal, per Fabrizio Romano.

The Sky Sports journalist stated that there was interest from West Ham, but it never reached an advanced stage for the club to be in the driver’s seat to secure his services.

Per The Daily Mail, the Baggies were looking for a fee in the region of £25million and they yet have to reach an agreement for it with the Saudi club, but the deal is expected to go through.

Speaking on his Twitch platform, Romano said, “Matheus Pereira is close to joining Al Hilal. He’s in advanced talks with them and there is an agreement on personal terms.

“Currently, there’s some working between the two clubs to complete the agreement to fix details on the final fee.

“A huge loss for the Premier League as few clubs wanted to sign him. West Ham wanted him but there was nothing advanced with them.”

Big loss

Pereira looked like he was high on our priority list and missing out on him for a club in Saudi Arabia is not a good look.

We would’ve offered him the chance to live in London and play in the Europa League.

However, it seemed like Al Hilal were offering him better wages and that could be what made up his mind.

It’s no secret that we’re looking for an attacking midfielder this summer with Jesse Lingard’s transfer looking highly unlikely, and Pereira would have been an ideal alternative.

Much like Lingard he’s at his destructive best when running down the centre of the pitch, but is capable of putting in a shift on the wings as well.

At 25, he’s at the perfect stage to take the step up and the London Stadium would’ve been a perfect landing spot for him on paper.

However, he’s opted for a move to the Middle East and is on the verge of joining forces with Leonardo Jardim.
