West Ham likely to sign Nayef Aguerd in summer for astonishing fee – report
It is “highly probable” that West Ham will sign Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd in the summer transfer window, according to club insiders Claret & Hugh.
The 26-year-old has been on David Moyes’ list of targets for a long time as he looks to strengthen his defence after this season’s crisis – losing all of their centre-backs to long-term injuries bar Craig Dawson.
Having extended his deal in 2021, the Morocco international contract with the Ligue 1 side expires in 2025.

There is said to be “astonishment” at Rennes that the Irons are willing to pay within the region of £18million for the centre-back.
Claret & Hugh claim that the Hammers “are close to agreeing a deal” with Rennes.
Shock.
This comes as a massive surprise to most West Ham fans. Most didn’t even know that Moyes and co were keeping tabs on Aguerd never mind it being likely that they sign him in the summer.
This move seems like a risk and the Irons need to be completely sure that he is their man before pulling the trigger.
The fans want them to spend money and sign players in the window but not in a reckless manner.

Paying way above the odds for a relatively unknown player doesn’t seem sensible and the fact that people in France are astonished at the amount the Hammers are willing to pay really doesn’t look good.
With that being said, maybe the supporters need to have some faith in their recruitment department.
They could have spotted a diamond in the rough and Aguerd might come to the London Stadium and shine – their scouting in France has done wonders in the past and this could be another great deal. At the end of the day, Moyes needs a centre-back or two for next season – it doesn’t matter who it is as long as they get the best men for the job.
