West Ham keeping tabs on Lille's Jonathan Bamba as alternative to Jesse Lingard
West Ham are keeping tabs on Lille attacker Jonathan Bamba as an alternative to Jesse Lingard, according to Express Sport.
The Hammers still want the Manchester United ace, but getting a deal done is not looking likely, and they have identified the 25-year-old Frenchman as a contingency plan.
Bamba is rated at around £25million, but whether West Ham are keen on paying that for him is unknown.
Lingard looks willing to remain at Old Trafford and fight for his place, and we need to quickly move on and accept that a deal to bring him to the London Stadium could be off.
Bamba is a younger option who has continued to grow in leaps and bounds in recent seasons, and West Ham should be looking to get a deal done.
The former France youth international ended last season with six goals and nine assists in 38 games to help Lille win the Ligue 1 title at the expense of Paris Saint-Germain, and his skills and pace have continued to cause problems for the opposition defences.
He also scored once in the Europa League.
In 2018-19, Bamba scored 13 league goals and weighed in with three assists, and we could do with such a versatile attacker.
The Frenchman is able to play across the forward positions and behind the striker, and while he would be a good addition to David Moyes’ attack, Lille are not going to let go of one of their best players easily.
Whether he would be keen to ditch Champions League football to join us remains to be seen, but we are offering European football too, and that remains an advantage.
