West Ham keep tabs on Chelsea’s Trevor Chalobah as January transfer news emerges – Dharmesh Sheth
West Ham are keeping tabs on Chelsea centre-back Trevor Chalobah as a potential late January target, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports journalist reported via X [29 January] that the Hammers are interested in the 24-year-old defender, whose season has been blighted by injury. However, he was spotted back in Chelsea training recently.
The young talent’s current contract at Stamford Bridge runs until 2028, with the deal including an option to extend by one year.
Passing of the torch
Following the departure of Thilo Kehrer, leaving on loan to Monaco, and Nayef Aguerd away on international duty, West Ham have been slightly stretched in defence.
Whether it be Kurt Zouma or Konstantinos Mavropanos facing time on the sidelines, Hammers fans have been in a slight crisis over their centre-back partnerships, with 35-year-old Angelo Ogbonna playing more than expected.
The Italian veteran has started three of the last five West Ham matches, commended for his appearance as they ground out a 2-0 victory over Arsenal in December. However, Ogbonna is certainly not a long-term fix for Moyes.
The youth of Chalobah, especially now that he looks to have recovered from his injury, presents the Hammers boss with an exciting talent at centre-back, who already has plenty of experience.

Despite his age, the Chelsea defender already has experience in Champions League football, becoming a mainstay in the Blues backline over the past couple of seasons. He managed to make 18 starts in the Premier League last season, even with Kalidou Koulibaly, Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta all in the squad.
Chalobah is now unlikely to force his back into Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI, with Silva and Axel Disasi forming a good partnership, which could persuade the young talent to switch allegiances.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have been tipped to land a “major blow” to an English club if they sign a defensive priority target before the deadline.
