West Ham keen on a loan deal for Chelsea centre-back Malang Sarr

West Ham have asked about potentially signing Chelsea centre-back Malang Sarr on loan, according to French outlet Foot Mercato.

The Frenchman, 22, is currently out of favour at Stamford Bridge, playing just one Premier League game for them so far in 2021-22.

Nevertheless, Sarr is not keen on leaving temporarily this month and the Hammers will need to convince both the player and the Champions League defending champions if they want a deal.

Hopeful?

West Ham want a left-footed centre-back after Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna picked up long-term injuries, and a loan deal for the youngster makes sense.

Torino, Strasbourg and Watford are also keen on Sarr – who Thomas Tuchel recently dubbed “strong” – but with England international left-back Ben Chilwell out of the season due to injury, the Blues could be reluctant about releasing him if they are unable to bring in a direct replacement.

Sarr can also line up in the position, and it is clear to see why the Hammers are keen.

Arthur Masuaku has done very little to convince David Moyes, and with Aaron Cresswell struggling with an injury, getting someone to provide cover for him has become pertinent.

Sarr can do that and also give West Ham centre-backs a run for their money, but he needs to be assured that he will get chances of feature regularly for him to leave Chelsea.

It is a smart piece of business for the Hammers if they can pull it off, and the fact that he already knows what to expect from Premier League forwards makes him a solid option.
