West Ham journalist slams Jarrod Bowen for Leeds United miss

Thomas Clark has reacted to West Ham maestro Jarrod Bowen’s ‘awful’ miss against Leeds United on Sunday (January 16).

Bowen, who scored the Hammers’ opener, had the chance to steal his team a point with a great chance less than six yards out.

The Irons’ in form winger opted to use his chest rather than his head and fired the ball over the crossbar in the 94th minute.

Clark took to his personal Twitter to say: “Not seen a replay of Bowen’s chance. Looked awful live, was it as bad as I think?”

He added: “Fair enough, seems it was. Why on earth is he chesting that would not have been a deserved point but should have been a point nonetheless.”

Fine margins

The Hammers will be hugely disappointed that their win streak in the Premier League is over. Bowen’s miss means that Arsenal now have the chance to overtake them to clinch fourth spot.

Even with such a shocking miss, Irons fans will find it very hard to blame Bowen and, how could they? The man who scored the opener has been in excellent form this season, arguably the team’s best player.

The winger is obviously human, everyone makes mistakes, and all will be forgotten about when he scores in West Ham’s next game. How he hasn’t gone with his head though is bizarre.

Truthfully, David Moyes’ side didn’t deserve to win the game. A draw would have flattered them, but Leeds edged the tie. The extra game in-between the two Leeds fixtures at the London Stadium seemed to affect the Hammers as they lacked energy and looked a little bit deflated at times.

Don’t get it wrong, they were better than usual and it was a memorable thriller in East London but that looked to be the decisive factor.
