West Ham insider says Declan Rice wasn’t injured after 2-1 loss v Brentford
West Ham United suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Brentford on Sunday, and it appeared that Declan Rice played through the pain barrier.
The England international midfielder, 22, was seen clutching his left hamstring at times during the loss, eventually going down on the floor with a cramp in added time.
The West Ham ace looked to be in discomfort, but he was the only player who went to all the stands to applaud the supporters after the final whistle.
According to Claret and Hugh, Rice is fine, though, and they have reported on their website that a club insider has confirmed that he is absolutely okay.
They said: “Some fans wondered if the captain was carrying an injury and playing through the pain barrier, but a club insider says we think it is just cramp, although he seems to get a lot of late in recent games.”
Boost?
With European football and its rigorous travelling schedule now part of their fixtures this term, it is safe to say that it has taken its toll on some of the Hammers stars.
Some of them looked leggy and out of sorts against Brentford, and the international break has come at the right time.
Given how influential he has been so far this term, West Ham cannot afford to be without Rice, and David Moyes will hope he returns with his batteries recharged after the break.
The Englishman will be very much involved in action with the Three Lions during the break, though.
Gareth Southgate’s side play Andorra away from home on October 9 before hosting Hungary at Wembley three days later.
Rice might not get much-needed rest, but the national team will be monitoring his situation and are unlikely to risk him if he shows any signs of struggle in training.
West Ham will want their player back in top condition after the break, and that will depend on how things go in the coming days.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to sign English sensation with 18 goals/assists in 20/21.
