West Ham ignite interest in Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley

West Ham are reportedly keen on signing Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley who is currently out on loan at Aston Villa.

According to TEAMtalk, David Moyes has added the England international to his list as news has emerged that Aston Villa are currently unhappy with the player.

The report claims that the player’s ‘off-field’ antics have led to disgruntlement among the Villa ranks, and they’re not keen on extending his loan or signing him permanently from Chelsea in the summer.

There are no doubts about the player’s quality, having impressed in spells for Everton and Chelsea, and also for the national team.

Speaking about him in July, Neil Warnock, who worked with the player when he was Leeds manager, said, “I think Ross is such a phenomenal talent.

“He can unlock defences and do the unexpected.”

Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard was understood to be an admirer of the player, having admitted to watching him closely at the start of the season.

However, since then Lampard lost his job at the helm, and Barkley’s performances have taken a massive hit.

Is he really needed?

While his quality is unquestioned, it’s his consistency that raises the most important questions.

He’s enjoyed fleeting successes wherever he’s been, but perhaps we should look to sign someone who can turn up with 7 or 8 on 10s every week.

Jesse Lingard’s future is still up in the air, and if we sign him permanently, it’s unlikely that the club will go for another player in that position.

It seems to be that the only reason we’re linked with Barkley is because of his previous history of working under Moyes.

Our manager was the one to give him his debut at Everton and has played a major role in his journey to being an England international.

However4, look at what Moyes has done with Lingard.

Could he perform similar miracles with another player who is struggling to find his true potential?

It’s a gamble but a mouth-watering prospect.
