West Ham have options other than Mohammed Kudus in search for Lucas Paqueta replacement – Jacob Steinberg

West Ham have other targets in attacking midfield in addition to Mohammed Kudus, according to Jacob Steinberg.

The Guardian reporter provided an update via Twitter (14 August) that despite looking at Ajax ace Kudus as a potential replacement for Lucas Paqueta, the club do have other targets in that area.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano previously reported via Twitter (14 August) that the Hammers had opened initial talks to sign the 23-year-old playmaker as a replacement for their Brazil international midfielder, who is attracting interest from Manchester City.

The Ghana international is open to the move, although David Moyes’ side have not yet approached his club.

Options

It is extremely important for the Hammers to keep their options open, as we have already seen on plenty of occasions during the summer transfer window so far.

So often the club have been interested in a player although the move has never come to fruition. If Paqueta is to leave, the 25-year-old will absolutely need replacing and it is crucial that there are a few potential choices lined up.

West Ham

If, for whatever reason, a deal for Kudus is not possible, the club will need to move quickly for someone else as they cannot continue without a like-for-like replacement for Paqueta, due to his importance to the side.

Therefore it is extremely positive that Steinberg has provided an update that they have various options in attacking midfield, as a deal for Kudus won’t necessarily be straightforward.

Of course, Paqueta could yet stay and this could all be meaningless. Nonetheless, it is good to see the club putting in place a contingency plan early.

In other West Ham news, the club’s stance on another potential signing has emerged with the deal still yet to be complete.
