West Ham have held talks over move for Dynamo Kyiv goalkeeper Heorhiy Bushchan
West Ham United have held talks over a move for Dynamo Kyiv goalkeeper Heorhiy Bushchan, according to Standard Sport.
Manager David Moyes wants to add competition for Lukas Fabianski, and the Hammers are in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a loan deal with an option to buy for Alphonse Areola.
It appears they want a contingency plan in place, and having been put off by West Brom asking for more than £10million for Sam Johnstone, they are keeping tabs on the 27-year-old Ukrainian instead.
Quality option
Bushchan has huge experience for club and country and was in goal for Ukraine during their European Championship campaign.
Hammers boss Moyes was part of UEFA’s technical observer team during the tournament and would have been keeping keen eyes on players on our radar.
Bushchan impressed as Ukraine reached the quarter-finals of the Euros, and could be a decent cover for Fabianski should a move for Areola fall through.
The Dynamo Kyiv academy graduate has been a key player for his side since making his debut in 2017-18, winning one Ukrainian Premier League title, two Ukrainian Cups and three Ukrainian Super Cups.
We could do with a proven winner at West Ham, and Bushchan’s experience in the Europa League and Champions League would come in very handy as Moyes’ men prepare for European football next season.
Compared to Areola, the Ukrainian would not cost a lot in terms of transfer fee and personal terms, and a deal would financially make sense for the London Stadium outfit.
In other West Ham news, Hammers cannot afford fee for one player David Moyes badly wants.
