West Ham handed major Kurt Zouma fitness boost

Kurt Zouma is recovering faster than expected after sustaining a hamstring tendon injury during the West Ham v Chelsea game on December 7.

According to ExWHUemployee, there were fears that he could be ruled out for the rest of the season, but those concerns were premature.

He’s not going to be available for the festive period and the club have chosen to not get surgery done to get him back to fitness.

Ex said, “Keeping in line with the festive spirit, there’s a bit of good news. Kurt Zouma is ahead of schedule. He’s not available for selection yet.

“They had the option of doing an operation or letting him recover naturally, but given his age, they chose to let him recover. He’s going to be out for a month, at least but not for the season as it was first feared.”

Great news

Zouma was a phenomenal signing in the summer and hit the ground running since joining West Ham.

The Frenchman managed to sort out many of the club’s defensive issues and emerged as a leader in the backline.

It’s no surprise that in his absence, they have looked frail without the ball and David Moyes would desperately want him to be back.

The fact that he’s not undergoing surgery would mean that his return could be speeded up and we could see him as early as February.

Hopefully, by then, the club will have signed another centre-back as it’s not plausible to rely on Craig Dawson or Issa Diop for the longer term.

Angelo Ogbonna is out for the season so Zouma will need a quality defender partnering him.
