West Ham focus on Jeremy Doku as fresh European competition emerges for Elye Wahi

West Ham are focusing their efforts on beating Manchester City to the signing of Jeremy Doku, with fresh competition emerging the race for Elye Wahi, according to Santi Aouna.

According to the FootMercato journalist (17 August), Ligue 1 side Lens have now joined West Ham and Frankfurt – who are pushing hard to find an agreement – in the pursuit of France Under-21 international Wahi.

The Hammers are still yet to make an official offer for the 20-year-old, who scored 19 goals in 33 Ligue 1 appearances for Montpellier last season.

While the competition for Wahi continues to heat up, David Moyes’ side’s priorities currently lie elsewhere, as they are focused on City to the signing of Rennes winger Doku.

The Daily Mail reported on Wednesday (16 August) that Manchester City have agreed verbal terms with Doku but West Ham are trying to jump ahead of the Premier League champions.

Busy

It has been a wildly chaotic summer this year for the East London outfit who now seem as if they’re trying to get all of their business done at once. This could be a summer split into two parts, outgoings and incomings.

After the sales of Declan Rice and Gianluca Scamacca, and with Lucas Paqueta’s situation looking increasingly uncertain, the club now seem prepared to splash the cash. After spending so long without a signing, Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse both arrived in quick succession.

And now it seems as if the board want more with Wahi, Doku and Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus all reportedly in their sights. Getting all three of those deals across the line simultaneously, while working toward a tight deadline with the window slamming shut in just a few weeks’ time, seems rather unlikely.

The club might be forced to pick, but supporters can rest assured knowing that all three are very exciting options.
