West Ham ‘fear’ for Nayef Aguerd as inside source reveals injury details from Morocco duty

Nayef Aguerd left the pitch in tears for Morocco on Tuesday and West Ham are worried about him worsening his injury, according to Claret & Hugh.

Aguerd was superb for the first hour against Spain, keeping Luis Enrique’s side quiet with a masterful defensive display. However, the 26-year-old centre-back overstretched when making a tackle against Alvaro Morata and left the pitch in tears.

He refused a stretcher and managed to hobble off the pitch, and Claret & Hugh have now reported the extent of his injury.

“After a scan today the Hammers have learned from the Moroccan staff that in fact the injury his to his thigh,” reads the report.

They add: “A key Claret and Hugh source inside the London Stadium revealed to us exclusively the extent of the problem and the Hammers fear of a far too early return.”

He said: “Aguerd’s is a low-grade thigh tear which in reality is a one to three-week lay-off.

“However, the fear is they rush him back for the weekend and that can make the injury a big tear which can be six weeks.”

Too risky

If it was up to Aguerd, he’d obviously try and play on Saturday against Portugal. It’s one of the biggest games in Morocco’s history and he’ll want to play his part.

But sadly, his injury is not worth risking. He’d not be playing at 100% regardless of his recovery and there’s a huge chance he makes it far worse.

A six-week recovery would mean Aguerd would miss the vital stretch of games over the New Year period including clashes against Arsenal, Brentford and Leeds United.

With Kurt Zouma still recovering from his surgery over the break, it’s essential that Aguerd rests up and returns to the London Stadium fit and healthy.

If Aguerd is named in the Morocco line-up for Saturday’s quarter-final clash, West Ham fans will likely be nervously watching the match through their fingers.
