West Ham fans involved in altercation with Rapid Vienna fans

Duncan Wright has claimed that West Ham fans and Rapid Vienna fans were throwing bottles at each other before kick-off.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, the Sun reporter claimed that both home and away fans were throwing bottles at each other as the rest of the stadium enjoyed a light show.

The ugly scenes continued during the match, with stewards having to intervene after Declan Rice scored and celebrated in front of Vienna’s supporters.

Ugly scenes at the London Stadium.

It seems as if sections of the home crowd and away crowd decided to act like morons and throw bottles at each other [@wilsonbwfc].

There have been no reports of any serious injury, and if that is the case, then the people involved are lucky they haven’t caused any damage to anyone.

Things appeared to escalate when Rice opened the scoring in the first half, with away end appearing to spill into the home end to try and attack some more Irons fans.

On the pitch, the Hammers were perfect and were unlucky not to win by more than one goal.

However, off the field, a small number of Hammers fans have let their club down by engaging with the Vienna fans, who were also involved in the violence.

It is always a shame to see violence break out at a football match, and we hope that those responsible are punished.
