Daniel Kretinsky comments on West Ham fans and London Stadium atmosphere

Daniel Kretinsky has suggested that the West Ham fans are one of the main reasons why he wanted to become a part of the club.

The Czech businessman has hailed the Hammers fans as among the most “passionate” and “knowledgeable” about their club and the game itself.

Kretinsky has also hailed the atmosphere at the London Stadium as “incredible”, having checked first hand against Leicester City and Liverpool.

“The Hammers’ fan base is one of the reasons why I wanted to become part of the club,” wrote Kretinsy for The Evening Standard.

“West Ham supporters are among the most passionate and knowledgeable about their club and their football anywhere. I understand that the move to London Stadium was initially difficult for some, but the atmosphere is incredible.”

New era?

Kretinsky has purchased a 27% share in West Ham in a deal worth around £180m-£200m.

He also co-owns Sparta Prague, and feels that his experience at running the Czech club will help improve the business side of things at West Ham.

Many feel that in the long run, Kretinsky will take over the complete shares of the club that will eventually end the Gold and Sullivan era.

Based on what he has said in his exclusive column for The Standard, it gives the impression that he is keen to make gradual changes at the London club.

He is impressed with the work David Moyes has done, and it seems the businessman has been moved by the passionate Hammers fans as well.

Kretinsky wants to reduce the debt at the club, which is a healthy sign. However, it remains to be seen whether he makes significant investments in the squad in the transfer market.

West Ham will face Rapid Vienna in the Europa League on Thursday. On Sunday, the Hammers will face the Premier League champions at the Etihad.
