West Ham fan blasted ‘miserable’ live on talkSPORT after what he said

Jason Cundy couldn’t believe what he was hearing as a “miserable” West Ham United fan phoned into talkSPORT after the 2-0 win against Newcastle United.

The Hammers pulled off a shock result at St James Park on Monday [25 November] as Tomas Soucek and Aaron Wan-Bissaka secured a monumental victory for Julen Lopetegui.

However, Riley, an Irons fan, called into talkSPORT after the result [25 November, 10:49pm] with co-host Cundy in shock at how “misterable” the supporter sounded after such a big win.

He said: “Bit miserable Riley, you sound down in the dumps mate!”

One down one to go for Julen Lopetegui at West Ham United

The Guardian reported on 20 November that the clashes against Newcastle and Arsenal would be make-or-break for Lopetegui – he has passed his first test with flying colours.

West Ham admittedly were fortunate the VAR deemed Konstantinos Mavropanos’ challenge on Callum Wilson not a penalty at St James Park but still, the visitors were far and away the better side on the night.

Newcastle dominated proceedings for the most part but failed to capitalise on their chances – indeed, the Irons found the killer edge after struggling in front of goal all season.

Lopetegui manufactured the Hammers’ “best performance in months”, and unlike previous results, there is a lingering feeling in East London that the Spaniard could build on this victory, but he has been in this position before and failed to deliver.

Furthermore, he faces his toughest test yet when his side hosts Arsenal at the London Stadium next weekend, and Lopetegui will not be in the dugout in what could be his final appearance for West Ham after receiving his third yellow card on Monday, resulting in a one-match touchline ban [Daily Mail].

Nevertheless, the impact of this victory on West Ham cannot be understated; the players will undoubtedly be in high spirits heading into the decisive game against Arsenal, and Lopetegui stands a gambler’s chance of securing his future in East London.
