West Ham face new rivals in bid to sign Nikola Milenkovic

West Ham United will have to work hard to secure the signing of Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic with new clubs in the race for the Serbian.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, the Irons have been joined by Serie A giants AC Milan and Juventus in the waiting room to sign the 24-year-old this summer.

Milenkovic agreed to play for one more year with Fiorentina last season but now seems set to leave Florence for a new start elsewhere.

West Ham

The price West Ham, or those chasing, would have to pay isn’t disclosed by Tutto Mercato Web but The Sun reported that Newcastle United would’ve had to pay £37.5million in January when they attempted to sign the Serbian.

His future in Florence isn’t entirely over as the Italian media outlet claims that the club could still attempt to convince him to stay for a more permanent time frame.

Sign anyone

After a January transfer window where the Hammers signed absolutely nobody, supporters could be forgiven for wanting to see any old player walk through the door.

Milenkovic isn’t any old player though and the 24-year-old could come straight in as the number one choice at centre-half.

West Ham

Before anyone can dream of that, the Irons do have to fend off some of the biggest names in world football and that will be far from easy given the stature of both AC Milan and Juventus in Italy.

The player may wish to stay in Serie A having settled very well since he joined Fiorentina in 2017 from Partizan Belgrade.

If that is what he ultimately wants, then there is little West Ham can do except throw ridiculous amounts of money at him in the hope that can turn his head to the Premier League.

David Moyes could do with another body in defensive with their hopes of competing in multiple competitions from next season but they can’t afford to splash absurd money on a player who is only slightly better than what they already have.

In other West Ham news, Frank McAvennie was baffled by what Moyes did against Southampton in the FA Cup on Wednesday.
