West Ham face dilemma regarding future of Issa Diop

West Ham United are facing a dilemma regarding the future of centre-back Issa Diop this summer, according to Claret & Hugh.

The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the London Stadium with Fulham said to be leading the charge.

As per the latest report, manager David Moyes is uncertain whether to keep the player or let him leave with the newly-promoted side willing to offer in the region of £15million for the player.

The report stated that because of an injury to newly-signed centre-back Nayef Aguerd, who has been ruled out at least till November, the former Manchester United manager wants to keep the player.

But in the form of Kurt Zouma, Craig Dawson, Angelo Ogbonna and Ben Johnson, it seems they might’ve enough options to fill the void left by the absence of Aguerd.

The report also stated that West Ham could get the same price for Diop next summer if they decide to sell with the option to extend his contract by an extra year.

Lack of Game Time

During the first two years at West Ham in 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, Diop played 63 Premier League games.  However, since then, he has found it hard to cement his place in the starting XI in the recent past.

When a team is playing in four different domestic competitions like West Ham, you can expect to see a role for everybody in the team, but that might not be the case as he is pretty low in the pecking order.

In the 2021-22 season with the Irons, the 25-year-old started only 10 Premier League games for the club. However, he did make seven Europa League appearances for the club [Transfermarkt].

Therefore, it may not be a bad move to let a player leave who is not in the plans of the manager, especially where there are so many players available to play a similar role if there is a need.
