West Ham eye summer move for Paul Onuachu – Report

West Ham United are reportedly eyeing a summer move for Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu, according to All Nigeria Soccer.

Per the report, fellow Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion are also interested in his services and have contacted Onuachu’s agent to begin talks over a potential transfer this summer.

Onuachu, who plies his trade for Racing Genk, is valued at £26 million and the Belgian side are unlikely to part ways with him on the cheap as they’re expecting a tough fight for his signature.

Worth exploring

While it may be the Belgian league, Onuachu has done his bit of being a prolific goal scorer.

In 33 league games, the Nigerian has found the back of the net on 29 occasions and when his numbers for club and country are to be taken into consideration, he’s on 37 for the season.

To add to this, he stands at 6ft 7in tall – making him a dream target man for David Moyes who likes his full-backs bombing forward and whipping crosses into the box.

He’s also on the back of a season that saw him win the Belgian Professional Footballer of the Year award along with the Golden Boot.

However, a few things will make this signing pretty complicated to get over the line.

West Ham

For starters, Genk share a good relationship with Brighton who they sold Leandro Trossard to in 2019. That understanding could go a long way in ensuring the Seagulls have first rejection over the player – making our chances to sign him that much more complicated.

To add to that, he’s not the cheapest of strikers out there and the club could hesitate to shell out that kind of money for someone not proven in the Premier League or any of Europe’s top five leagues.

We’ve also been extensively linked to Tammy Abraham, who’s possibly still our first-choice target and one we must move bridges to get over the line.
