West Ham enquire about World Cup winning free-agent – report
West Ham United need to sell players in order to make any significant additions.
It is disappointing for the Irons fans who saw their club break their transfer record more than once in the past couple of seasons.
Those moves didn’t bring results on the pitch though, and both David Gold and David Sullivan are facing more backlash over their dealings.
Who could be available for cheap this summer though?
The Express have reported that the Hammers are targeting free-agent playmaker Mario Gotze in this window.
It is suggested on their website that West Ham have made an enquiry for the German world-cup winner who has recently left Borussia Dortmund.
Moyes won’t be alone in targeting Gotze though, with both Monaco and Roma also being in the race for the 28-year-old.
Yes, Gotze is a big name, but it surely isn’t what West Ham fans want to be seeing.
The 28-year-old has seriously seen his career go downhill in recent years, only making five starts for Dortmund in the Bundesliga last season.
Gotze found the back of the net three times in his 15 appearances and failed to even register a single assist despite his playmaker role.
West Ham need to be aiming higher than this, with Gotze no different to the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Pablo Fornals – something Moyes needs to think of before launching any move.
