West Ham early team news v Fulham: Potter drops Summerville injury update

Graham Potter has revealed West Ham United ace Crysencio Summerville is unlikely to feature in the Premier League clash against Fulham.

Potter suffered an early FA Cup exit at the hands of Aston Villa in the 2-1 loss at Villa Park on Friday (10 January) in his first game since replacing Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium.

However, the attention must now return to beating Fulham at the London Stadium on Tuesday (14 January).

As speculation remains rife regarding who will be named in his first league starting XI, the Irons boss provided an update in his pre-match press conference (13 January, 1:32pm)

He said: “It’s a minor one with [Summerville]. It’s probably a little bit more than precautionary. He felt something after about 35 minutes [against Aston Villa].

“He finished the first half but probably not at 100 per cent. It’s touch and go but airing towards the negative at the moment.”

Potter added: “Emerson [Palmieri] has made good progress, he’s been training today and yesterday. [Jean-Clair] Todibo is still with the physio. [Konstantinos] Mavropanos is no problem, he’s trained the last two days.”

Graham Potter must hit ground running at West Ham United

The loss against Aston Villa is a hard pill to swallow, but Potter must not allow the manner of the defeat to distract from the positives shown in his first outing.

Referee Tim Robinson cost West Ham passage to the FA Cup fourth round after his “awful” decision to award the visitors a corner after Amadou Onana’s cross went out of play.

Onana converted from the resulting corner to level the tie despite the blatant officiating error before Morgan Rogers put the final nail in the coffin five minutes later to settle the contest.

However, Potter has bigger fish to fry in the Premier League and will embark on salvaging what remains of the Lopetegui era.

The recently departed Spaniard left the Hammers rooted in 14th-place and only seven points clear of the relegation zone at the campaign’s midway point.

Danny Ings secured a share of the spoils at Craven Cottage in the return fixture after his 95th-minute last-gasp equaliser cancelled out Raul Jimenez’s first-half opener for the hosts.

West Ham will need a more comprehensive performance to secure a victory in East London this time, and the potential absentees of Summerville and Todibo will make for an intriguing contest.
