West Ham early team news v Crystal Palace: Crysencio Summerville update shared
Graham Potter says West Ham will have to make a late decision on whether Crysencio Summerville can play against Crystal Palace.
The winger was forced off the pitch at the halfway point in his side’s FA Cup loss against Aston Villa and was not in the squad when the Hammers beat Fulham on Tuesday (14 January).
Potter’s side welcome Crystal Palace on Saturday (18 January) and the boss will be hoping to have as many players fit as possible as he looks to build on the momentum of a first win.
However, in his pre-match press conference [via The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas, 16 January], Potter confirmed it may be too soon for Summerville.
“We’re still waiting on Crysencio Summerville and will have to make a late decision,” Potter said. “Saturday’s game could be too soon for him.”
Graham Potter needs to build on West Ham win
The new Hammers boss will no doubt be feeling relief after getting his first win under his belt, although Potter will know that there is plenty of work to be done at the London Stadium during the rest of the campaign.
It’s not been the easiest place to come into, with the likes of Niclas Fullkrug, Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio all unavailable through injury, which has left the Irons light at the top end of the pitch.
Nevertheless, Carlos Soler, Tomas Soucek and Lucas Paqueta proved against Fulham that goals can come from elsewhere in this Hammers side, and the manager will be hoping he can continue to push his other players to perform.
Summerville has just one goal and one assist from 19 top-flight appearances so far this term and he will no doubt be disappointed with that return .However, the 23-year-old could certainly flourish under his new manager.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see how Summerville performs once fit enough to play and, should he be available for the game against Palace, it will be up to the winger to show Potter what he can deliver.
