West Ham discussing transfer of Duje Caleta-Car with Marseille

West Ham United are currently in negotiations with Marseille over the potential signing of Croatian defender Duje Caleta-Car before 31 January, according to Foot Mercato.

The 25-year-old has long been in the sights of David Moyes and the club’s board have moved to complete the move within the next two days.

Foot Mercato though are reporting that they would need to double his wages to the equivalent of £80,000 per week to get the deal over the line.

“He would receive more than 400,000 € per month on the side of the Olympic Stadium in London,” they report.

The transfer fee would be in the region of £16.6million with a further £4million potential being added depending on the success of the Hammers this season and a percentage of resale also owed to the Ligue 1 club.

From the Mediterranean Sea to the River Thames

Caleta-Car has been long overdue this kind of big move and it looks like he will finally get the chance he deserves.

All the Hammers need to do is put their hands in their pockets and pay whatever is necessary and it seems like they are willing to do so.

They would have preferred to have this deal sorted by now with the transfer window closing at 11 pm tomorrow (31 January) but it will become irrelevant if they get their man.

Defensive cover is one of the key areas Moyes needs to improve with Angelo Ogbonna out injured long term which has seen Craig Dawson play more games than expected.

They might need another centre-half even more urgently if Newcastle’s pursuit of Issa Diop ends in success for the Magpies [L’Equipe].

Time is ticking though and they can’t afford to dilly-dally much longer.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have tabled a massive bid to sign this England star from a Premier League rival.
