West Ham defender Kurt Zouma back in the gym as recovery begins

West Ham centre-back Kurt Zouma has not suffered an injury as serious as his Italian counterpart Angelo Ogbonna, according to Football.London.

The Frenchman is already in the gym working on his recovery, but there is no known date yet set for his return.

While Ogbonna is set to almost miss the rest of 2021-22 after he ruptured his Anterior Cruciate Ligament, it appears Zouma could soon be back in action, with a return before the campaign ends on the cards.

Boost?

David Moyes could be forced to bring in a cover at the back in January as Issa Diop and Craig Dawson are the only senior centre-backs available for the West Ham manager.

The Hammers have already slipped out of the top-four, and with many games to play during the second half of 2021-22, landing defensive reinforcements are very important.

However, hearing that Zouma is back in the gym is good news as he could return to action sooner rather than later.

West Ham have missed his influence at the back, and they could struggle to get a quality cover that is capable of replicating the brilliant performances he has put in since joining from Chelsea in the summer.

Recent results have not been particularly impressive, with a draw and a defeat in the league since Zouma limped off against his former club early this month (December).

Being without such a key player could derail their campaign, and Moyes will be hoping that does not happen.
