West Ham defender Ben Johnson could return v Tottenham
West Ham defender Ben Johnson could return against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup clash on Wednesday night, according to ExWHUEmployee.
The 21-year-old picked up an injury during West Ham’s 3-2 win against Chelsea earlier this month.
It was previously expected that he would be ruled out for up to four weeks, but it seems he could make a swift return to action.
Ex said on the West Ham Way podcast: “Ben Johnson and Kurt Zouma are both ahead of schedule in their rehabilitation from injuries.
“Johnson might be available for the Spurs game. He is massively ahead of the schedule, watch this space.”
Spurs are looking rejuvenated following their 2-2 draw against Liverpool.
It seems the two-week break due to numerous Covid tests among players and staff have added freshness to the team.
West Ham, on the other hand, are going through a mini-crisis at the moment, having secured just one win in their last six games in all competitions.
The Hammers are winless in their last three games and are heading into this tie on the back of a 2-0 defeat against Arsenal.
It’s a massive game, and the potential return of Johnson is a timely boost.
With Vladimir Coufal suspended after he picked up a red card against the Gunners last Wednesday (15 December), Johnson’s return wouldn’t have come at a better time.
Ex has also suggested that Aaron Cresswell is fit and he is in contention to return against Tottenham.
In case, Johnson fails to prove his match fitness, Moyes could turn to young Harrison Ashby for the right-back role.
