West Ham eye transfer deadline day move for Stade de Reims defender Thomas Foket
West Ham reportedly fail in their pursuit to sign Stade de Reims defender Thomas Foket on transfer deadline day.
According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Hammers were only willing to offer around half of what the French club were looking for.
They were even willing to offer a three-year deal to the 27-year-old but that’s not happening, as things stand.
Via Twitter, Tavolieri wrote, “Thomas Foket almost joined WestHamUnited. The Hammers were willing to offer ≈ 3.5M€ (£3million). The right side of #DiablesRouges could sign a 3-year contract + option at #WHUFC. Refusal of #StadeReims who demanded 6M€ (£5.2million).”
Deadline day often throws up surprise transfer links such as this one.
The Hammers have not really known to want or right back all summer and have never been close to really signing anyone.
Until today, there were no real links to anyone in that position but then the Ola Aina links gave rise to speculation that the Hammers could be looking for someone there.
However, after the first bid was rejected for him, it does not seem like the Irons are going to pursue his services anymore.
They now seem to have turned their attention to the Belgian Defender, but this move also does not seem likely to go ahead.
Unless something, miraculous happens, it seems like West Ham are ending their transfer deadline day without signing anyone after having or really busy summer transfer window.
