West Ham: David Moyes contract update as ‘cautious’ verdict delivered
West Ham are being “cautious” over their decision to award David Moyes a new contract, according to journalist Dean Jones.
Fabrizio Romano reported on February 4 (Daily Briefing) that talks between both parties over a contract extension were “advancing well”, with Moyes’ current deal set to expire at the end of the season.
However, Sportslens (7 February) said that talks between the parties had slowed due to a recent dip in form at the London Stadium and consequent supporter unrest.
Jones, speaking to GiveMeSport, expects Moyes to still earn a new deal, though acknowledged there is little urgency in the boardroom to get pen put to paper.
He said: “I have thought for a while now that it would be hard to imagine West Ham not giving Moyes a new contract.
“They’ve definitely tried to be cautious about rushing into that decision. But, at this stage, you would say he deserves a new contract if he is given one.”
Are West Ham stalling on a new David Moyes deal?
It would have seemed crazy to think at Christmas that Moyes would not have been in line for a new contract at West Ham after he led them to sixth in the table and a push for another season of continental football.
But since beating Arsenal on 28 December, the Hammers have failed to win their past six matches in all competitions, being dumped out of the FA Cup by Bristol City in the process.

The Hammers are still seventh in the table and will soon resume their Europa League duties but there is an underlying feeling among some supporters that Moyes might not be the manager needed in the long term.
The other camp will defend Moyes’ record, especially after he led the club to a brilliant Europa Conference League triumph last season, and it would be very harsh if he were to fail to land a new deal. But it seems as though the situation is still a little unclear.
