West Ham could sign two new central defenders – ExWHUemployee

West Ham United could do the “unthinkable” and sign two new centre-backs this summer, according to ExWHUemployee.

Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic is edging towards the London Stadium, but he could now be joined by Kurt Zouma.

Despite being earlier snubbed by the Frenchman, Ex shared the huge twist that the Hammers have reopened talks on Monday.

Writing on the West Ham Way Patreon, Ex discussed the Irons doing the “unthinkable” in this window.

“This does not mean that Milenkovic is off,” he wrote. “This does not mean Zouma is a done deal. It’s just some of the discussions that went on today.

“Could the unthinkable be happening and we are signing two centre backs (I really find this hard to believe) but I’m just trying to make logic of why we are doing this.”

West Ham

Surely not.

Having followed West Ham for so long, we were half expecting some of these deals to collapse again and end up with no defender.

To go from that to potentially bringing in two high-class operators would be the perfect window in a defensive sense.

If both were permanent deals though, and both did arrive, that would seriously harm the budget needed to splash the cash on a new attacker later this month.

We still only have Michail Antonio as our only senior option and with his track record, he needs back-up to help cope with his injury problems.

This is no doubt exciting news, but it may scupper our activity in other areas and we seriously need to weigh up what is more important to us ahead of this season.
