West Ham could lose Kurt Zouma for the rest of the season

West Ham fear that Kurt Zouma could be out for the rest of the season, according to a report from The Guardian.

The French defender picked up an ankle injury in the 2-0 defeat against Brentford.

The towering defender has not travelled to France for Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final second leg against Lyon.

He has undergone a scan today which gives the indication that he is unlikely to make a swift return.

Irreparable damage

West Ham drew 1-1 with Lyon in the first leg and need a strong performance to book a place in the last four of the Europa League.

The early prognosis regarding Zouma is pessimistic. He is a key player for the club, and losing him now in the business end of the season could be a huge loss.

David Moyes will be desperate to have him back for the run-in. The Hammers already lost him for a few months during the season, but to miss him now would be a disaster.

With Angelo Ogbonna out till the end of the season, Moyes will have to pin his hopes on the pair of Craig Dawson and Issa Diop.

Dawson has been superb this season and he has not let anyone down but Diop’s form has not always been consistent. Aaron Cresswell is also out of this clash after he picked up a red card in the first leg.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have scouted a £20m-rated “Dangerous” British striker and want to seal a permanent move this summer.
