West Ham could be tempted to sell Lucas Paqueta to Manchester City if £70m plus 10m in add-ons offer is made

Manchester City are set to return with an improved offer to sign West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta, according to the Daily Mail.

Writing in the Mail, Sami Mokbel shared that “a bid of £70m plus a further £10m in achievable add-ons this summer may be enough to tempt the London Stadium club into selling Paqueta”. (14 August).

Paqueta is keen on the move and there is a growing sense that, despite the Hammers’ reluctance to sell, the 25-year-old will be a Manchester City player by the end of the transfer window.

Personal terms have not yet been agreed, but are not thought to be a stumbling block in any potential deal.

Matter of time

It seems as if a transfer is now just simply a matter of time. With the financial power that City possess and the desire of Paqueta to make the switch up north, it appears as if the Hammers would need a miracle to prevent this deal from becoming a reality.

They signed the Brazil international just last summer in a club-record deal worth £51million (Sky Sports News, 29 August 2022), and are set to potentially lose the player 12 months later.

While supporters might be frustrated that Paqueta is leaving them after making such a big impression during his debut season, from the club’s perspective, it could be a lot worse. They would be making almost a £20million profit after just one year and saw the player win a trophy during his time at the London Stadium.

Of course, the deal might still not go through, but with the player keen to leave it might be best to grant him his wish.

In other West Ham news, another exit from the club could be announced imminently.
