West Ham cool interest as Newcastle close in on James Tarkowski deal
West Ham have reportedly decided to cool interest in Burnley defender James Tarkowski as Newcastle are ready to pounce.
According to The Sun, the Hammers are looking at other alternatives despite being keen on the 29-year-old’s services.
The Englishman is in the last few months of his deal at Turf Moor and Burnley are willing to hear transfer offers this month.

Good move
For starters, signing a 29-year-old to replace a 33-year-old Angelo Ogbonna does not sound like a good plan.
Tarkowksi, a player labelled “Sensational” by Keith Andrews, is likely to slow down in a couple of years before the club start to look at replacements for him as well.
If they’re looking to bring him on for a short-term basis then signing him for free at the end of the season would make a lot of sense.
However, with Newcastle now interested in his services, Burnley will look to jack up his value and cash in on his services in January.

Given their super rich owners, there’s no chance that the Hammers can match up to whatever they pay Burnley and the defender himself this month.
Instead, West Ham should look to sign someone younger and cheaper who’ll be there at the club for a long time.
Nat Phillips from Liverpool appears to be one such option and now the ball is in Rob Newman’s court.
