West Ham considering loan bid for Nathan Ake after Kurt Zouma injury blow

West Ham are eyeing a loan move to bring Manchester City centre-back Nathan Ake to the London Stadium in January, according to The Sun.

The Hammers have lost both Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma to long-term injuries, with the latter ruled out until March after sustaining severe damage to the hamstring at the weekend, and David Moyes has been forced to look into the market.

Ake, 26, is struggling for playing minutes at the Etihad Stadium, but a temporary move to join the Hammers could tempt him if he is promised regular football, and the fact that the Netherlands international can play on the left side of the defence makes him a tempting option.

Solid move

West Ham need to strengthen at the back as they cannot really rely on only Issa Diop and Craig Dawson until March, and the former Bournemouth star would be a solid addition.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola is a fan of the Dutchman, dubbing him an “intelligent guy” on the club’s website back in October 2021.

Ake has only started four Premier League games this term as he is behind John Stones, Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte in the pecking order, and a move to a side challenging for the top-four is definitely huge.

He scored against West Ham in a thrilling 3-3 draw back in December 2017 while he was still with the Cherries, but he could soon be scoring for them going forward.

Ake cost Man City £40million in August 2020, but he has not been able to force his way into Pep’s starting XI.

The Hammers are unlikely to be able to sign him permanently, but a loan deal should be easy to secure if all parties involved can agree to terms of an agreement.
