West Ham confirm one staff member will stay on at Rush Green with Julen Lopetegui

West Ham have confirmed that Xavi Valero will remain with the club following Julen Lopetegui’s arrival at the London Stadium.

David Moyes’ departure after five years in East London has been followed by several other exits at West Ham this week.

Following Lopetegui’s arrival at the club, the Argentinian has appointed five coaches to his backroom staff, with all five having worked with the 57-year-old previously (West Ham United Official Website, 23 May).

While these staff members are new to the club, there will still be one familiar face at Rush Green, with Valero set to continue in his role as men’s first-team Goalkeeper Coach.

West Ham United set for a summer of change under Julen Lopetegui

As expected, Moyes has been followed out the door by several staff members.

When a new manager arrives at a club, they tend to bring a lot of their own people with them.

It is completely understandable and not anything that the players won’t be used to already.

Change is part of football, and after the way Moyes’ time at the London Stadium ended, a lot of the players are most likely excited about the prospect of working under a new manager with fresh ideas.

However, it will be nice for the players to at least see one familiar face at the training ground.

The staff and players form close bonds while working together, and Valero sticking around will help maintain some continuity at the club.

The coach has been with the Hammers since the days of Manuel Pellegrini, and it is a testament to his work that he has lasted this long in East London.
