West Ham communications chief Ben Campbell set for role at PGMOL in new year
Ben Campbell is quitting his role as head of communications at West Ham to take on a similar role at the PGMOL, according to Daily Mail journalist Mike Keegan.
The PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Board) is regularly criticised within the football community, especially since VAR was introduced to the Premier League.
And it seems that in an effort to save face, the organisation has hired Campbell to shine a better light on them in the public’s eye.

Writing on the Daily Mail website, Keegan said: “With VAR continuing to ruin football, perhaps it is no surprise that match officials’ body PGMOL has hired a new head of communications.
“Ben Campbell is taking on the role, heading over in the new year from West Ham. Experience of working for an organisation where many of those involved are not necessarily popular with the public may have been a key skill identified by recruiters.”

Good luck, Ben
It must be a daunting job, to head up the communications for an organisation where people in it are criticised all the time.
Even when referees do things right, there are always some people who speak out against them. No referee is 100 per cent supported by any football fan.
It has been smooth sailing at West Ham over the last year with David Moyes bringing success to the club on the pitch.
While there are still issues behind the scenes and the fans are still seemingly in favour of a GSB exit, there’s definitely an air of content surrounding the London Stadium as of late.
Campbell will have his work cut out at the PGMOL but there’s no doubt he’s got experience of working with figures who are often cast as the bad guys in the public eye.
It’ll be a big job for him and we wish him well.
The PGMOL desperately need someone better to head up their communications department and hopefully, this might lead to increased transparency from the game’s most criticised characters.
