West Ham chiefs in firing line as further sackings beyond Julen Lopetegui mooted
Rory Jennings believes Julen Lopetegui is not the only one to blame for the failings at West Ham United this season.
The Spaniard’s days at the London Stadium appear to be numbered, with the upcoming clashes against Newcastle United and Arsenal make-or-break for his tenure [The Guardian].
However, when discussing the ongoing debacle at the Hammers live on talkSPORT [22 November, 7:50pm], Jennings went a step further and believes whoever was behind Lopetegui’s appointment should also be in the firing line.
He said: “It is an atrocious appointment. Heads should roll but not only Lopetegui’s.
“It is the most uninspiring appointment that I think that club could have made for that set of fans.”
David Sullivan must answer West Ham United supporters
Lopetegui has been a resounding failure for West Ham – he has lost the trust of the players [talkSPORT], and his style of football is the epitome of what the supporters did not want to see after David Moyes.
There is no hiding that his appointment was a catastrophic error. However, David Sullivan has to be held accountable for his role in the unfolding saga; the Hammers owner is the “key reason” Lopetegui remained in his role during the international break and has not lost hope that the Spaniard can become a success in East London [GiveMeSport].
The Irons are looking over their shoulder at the relegation zone and losses against Newcastle and Arsenal could see the side in the bottom three heading into December.
While the fixture list does indeed appear easier on paper after the trip to the Emirates, Lopetegui would still need five or six points minimum from the matches against Leicester, Wolves and Bournemouth. With the way West Ham are playing as of late, it isn’t likely the Spaniard achieves the feat.

Sullivan must replicate the ruthlessness he showed to Moyes and terminate Lopetegui’s employment before the situation in East London spirals out of control, and then, he could even turn his attention to Tim Steidten.
West Ham splashed the cash this summer with Steidten in control of transfers to provide Lopetegui with the squad capable of launching a European bid this term.
Steidten’s acquisitions have since failed to impress for the Hammers and can be attributed as a significant factor in the side’s downfall this season.
Therefore, with the director of football and manager in the firing line, Sullivan cannot rest on his laurels, so replacing the pair could be what it takes to avoid his name entering the crosshairs at West Ham.
