West Ham charges for use of London Stadium revealed

West Ham appear to be paying north of £3.5million per season in order to use the London Stadium which is not currently owned by them.

According to a Freedom of Information request issued by reliable Hammers insiders Six Foot Two, the base fee of £2.5million in 2016 has been increased due to inflation and additional costs as well.

The Hammers paid £207,081 in bonuses for finishing sixth in the Premier League and qualifying for the European League last season on top of their rent.

Expensive

These are the additional costs that clubs have to factor into if they do not own their stadiums and the Hammers are feeling the brunt of it.

Hopefully, Daniel Kretinsky and co look to fast-track the process of making this happen as it will be a money maker in the long run.

They can not only get a naming rights arrangement for it which will bring in a lot of cash, they can also rent the stadium out for other events.

Stadiums these days are used as community locations as well and they can also be used for other sports like boxing and American Football and also for music events.

It remains to be seen when and if this happens and how that impacts the club’s finances in the short and long run as there’s a good chance that they will have to take out a loan.

Whether this impacts their transfer activity is not known as of now but we feel that it could see budgets curtailed for a few years.
