West Ham United centre-back update emerges ahead of January transfer window after Kurt Zouma news

West Ham are reportedly “more likely” to sign a centre-back in January after Kurt Zouma sustained a knee injury that’s likely to keep him out for a while.

The Hammers defender has had surgery on his knee and injury expert Ben Dinnery revealed on 27 December that he could even be ruled out for four months.

This certainly adds to David Moyes’ woes at the heart of defence and a replacement for Zouma appears to be the priority in January.

West Ham

Speaking to Give Me Sport, journalist Dean Jones said, “We were kind of expecting this even before the injury. So, I guess it does look more likely now that they will go back into the market.”

Much needed

The Hammers appear to have rotten luck in the centre-back department as they’ve suffered numerous injuries there.

Even when Nayef Aguerd signed, he missed many months of action and only got back to playing a few weeks before the World Cup break.

Zouma could be ruled out until March or even April and given the form West Ham have been in, they desperately need to sign a top class centre-back.

Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic has been on the club’s radar for a while and we believe he’ll be a good signing for the Hammers.

Moyes certainly rates him because of his height and ball-playing ability and he’ll be important for defending as well as attacking set pieces.

Ben Johnson has been deployed as a centre-back on numerous occasions, but he’s arguably the best right-back in the team and deserves to be playing in his natural position.
