West Ham can win race to sign £50million Darwin Nunez from Benfica – Andy Brassell
West Ham have been tipped to win the race for Champions League star Darwin Nunez from Benfica by European football expert Andy Brassell.
The Hammers wanted the Uruguayan, who scored against Liverpool last night (5 April) in January but couldn’t complete the deal.
The 28-goal man has been in supreme form and has attracted the interest of other Premier League sides (talkSPORT), but the London Stadium is predicted to be his home before long.

Brassell told talkSPORT: “He is so physical, he puts so much into the game that there will be miles on the clock at some point.
“That hasn’t put Premier League clubs off as far as I’m aware.
“West Ham were very interested in signing him, but wouldn’t go up to the €60m that Benfica wanted in winter.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up there at some point.”
At last
This would now be the perfect signing for a number of reasons.
He has proven his quality this season, with English opposition finding that out last night.
He is the sort of statement signing that could send a message to Declan Rice and others about the direction of the club.

And crucially, he is already a player that manager David Moyes wants.
The former Everton boss is notoriously reticent to spend money on players he doesn’t think will fit.
But since the club made considerable efforts to bring the 22-year-old in during the winter window, Moyes clearly rates him enough to spend record money on him.
The club and the fans will be hoping that the intent and the ground work put in during those January negotiations put them in the driving seat to complete the move in the summer.
No signing is a sure thing, and Sebastien Haller’s success in Europe’s top competition this year after struggling with the Irons shows that.
But there is a gap for a striker, and after forgoing so many cheaper options, the club look like they only have an eye for Nunez right now.
