West Ham can only sign Caleta-Car on a permanent basis in January – report

West Ham will have to secure Duje Caleta-Car on a permanent deal if they are to sign the Marseille defender in January, as per Daily Mail

The Hammers were looking to bring the 25-year-old in on a loan to buy deal but the French club has insisted they are not willing to sanction a loan deal for their ace.

The Croatian has been valued at around £15million with only 18 months left on his contract.

West Ham

David Moyes is hopeful of cooping the Hammers target with a shortage in the centre of defence with Angelo Ogbonna out for the rest of the season.

Get it done

West Ham’s number one priority should be a striker but immediately after that, it is a centre back.

The injuries to Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma coming at the same time was very unfortunate, but it highlighted how vulnerable the Irons are in that position.

West Ham

Yes, they have enough players as replacements but there has been question marks surrounding their quality and whether it is good enough to take West Ham to where they want to go this season and in the future.

Craig Dawson and Issa Diop have done really well since coming in given the circumstances, but they aren’t long term solutions in centre half.

They are good squad players and could definitely do a good job alongside one of the stronger centre backs but should never be deployed as a pairing.

Zouma coming back from injury has been a huge relief to the Hammers defence but Caleta-Car would be a great addition to the defence and give Moyes some much-needed quality depth.
