West Ham: Callum Marshall’s dad likes series of tweets as striker returns from West Brom
Callum Marshall’s father has reacted on social media after it was confirmed that the young striker is set to return to West Ham from West Brom – though his loan spell has not been ended.
West Ham confirmed on their official website on 9 April that the 19-year-old has returned to London, where he will be eligible to play for the Hammers’ Under-21s side, but not their first team.
However, the loan agreement is still in effect and West Brom retain the right to request that Marshall come back to the Hawthorns should they require him.
Marshall’s father, Ciaran, has liked a series of tweets on his personal X account reacting to the news of his son’s return to West Ham.
Callum Marshall’s development is better served back at West Ham
Marshall’s loan spell at West Brom certainly has not turned out as any party involved would have hoped.
The young striker made just three first-team appearances for Carlos Corberan – all off the bench – with the most recent coming in a 2-0 defeat against Southampton in February.
This is in spite of the injury issues suffered by West Brom’s other first-team strikers Brandon Thomas-Asante, Josh Maja and Daryl Dike during Marshall’s time at the club, with winger and captain Jed Wallace preferred to the teenager up front in a period when all three were absent.
In fact, Marshall was left out of four of the last five matchday squads altogether – and with Maja nearing a return to fitness, the teenager’s obstacles to involvement are only likely to increase.
Marshall can now resume his pursuit of the Premier League 2’s top scorer award, where he remains out in front on 16 goals this term despite not making an appearance in the competition since December.
In other West Ham news, the club may come to regret selling this player if Lucas Paqueta moves on in the summer.
