West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo reacts to inevitable sack news

Nuno Espirito Santo has been talking before West Ham’s match against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, and was quizzed on Manchester United’s sacking of Ruben Amorim.

West Ham play Nottingham Forest at the London Stadium in a crunch Premier League match that could decide the Hammers boss’s fate.

Recent reports have suggested that Nuno will be given the Forest game at the very most, with either a draw or a loss possibly enough for David Sullivan to pull the trigger.

The Portuguese head coach could become the second Premier League manager to be axed in two days with a defeat to Forest, as Man United announced the departure of Amorim on Monday.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s ‘surprise’ over Ruben Amorim sack

West Ham are in a battle to survive relegation with Nuno, as the former Wolves boss hasn’t helped steady the ship since taking over from Graham Potter.

Many supporters have directed their ire at the West Ham hierarchy for their decisions, with the appointment of Nuno now appearing to be another mistake, given recent updates.

Speaking to the press before what could be his final game in charge of the Hammers against Sean Dyche’s side, the West Ham boss admitted he was surprised to see Amorim go – even if the sacking has seemed inevitable for a while now.

Nuno said, as quoted by Roshane Thomas on X: “Surprised and sad. He’s a young manager, but this is what it is. This is how the industry works.”

Nuno may be subtly foreshadowing his awareness of the fate that awaits him.

Why Nottingham Forest are best placed to beat West Ham

It would be a hard task to find many teams in the world that have had a worse season than West Ham in terms of underperformance.

Many had hopes that Potter would be able to build something special at E20 during his first full season in charge, but that wasn’t to be the case.

Nuno has only won two Premier League matches, with Dyche’s record for Forest is lining up to be a key factor in the former’s inevitable dismissal.

Dyche has led his side to seven wins in all competitions since arriving at the City Ground in October, and although Forest aren’t in great form, a win for the visitors looks more likely.

Despite four consecutive losses coming into the clash, Forest have managed away wins at Liverpool and against European competition under Dyche, as West Ham will be no tricky task for the Reds.
