West Ham boss David Moyes slams UEFA new rule, calls for change
West Ham boss David Moyes has insisted that UEFA must reconsider their most recent rule change.
The winners of the FA Cup could now see themselves rewarded with a Champions League place – if they have “European pedigree”, according to the Mirror.
The Scot branded the Irons the “new boys on the block”, emphasising the unfair nature of the rules with them unexpectedly reaching the quarterfinal stage of the Europa League.

He told the Daily Mail: “If we’re honestly talking about a football club who are back in Europe, you would have to say we’re new. We’re the new boys on the block.
“I bet you UEFA were not expecting West Ham to be in this position. But that’s what happens. And that’s why we need to keep encouraging UEFA to bring in other teams.
“Look how well we’ve done. Maybe we might not have got in this competition if there were different rules.
“From that point of view, I really think that we want to show that we can challenge. And if we’re at our best, we’re a match for most teams and we can be.”
Laughable
Yet again, the football elites are looking out for each other.
With the FA Cup losing its traditional competitive edge in recent years, so many have called for the winner to be handed a European spot.

At long last, it seemed as if those in charge had listened, but things are never that easy, are they?
The fact that teams have to have a rich European history is a complete joke and completely defeats the objective of the rule change.
It should give everyone the chance to reach the best club competition in the world, not those who would normally find themselves in for a shout.
Take Crystal Palace, for example, if they win the FA Cup, they would more than deserve a go in the Champions League with the teams they have beaten on route to the final.
Luckily the Hammers are good enough – this season – to fight in the Europa League and Premier for the UCL but that could very well change.
Hats off to Moyes for sticking up for the supposed smaller teams.
In other West Ham news, Moyes is determined to make Champions League goalscorer Darwin Nunez a West Ham player in the summer.
