West Ham board reaches majority decision on Lopetegui sack amid insiders reveal

West Ham United’s board will make a decision on June Lopetegui’s future in the next 48 hours with a majority pushing for a change, according to The Sun.

The Sun reported in their print edition (5 December, page 49) that in the wake of the Irons’ 3-1 defeat at Leicester City on Tuesday night, a majority of the club’s board want to give Lopetegui the boot.

Lopetegui’s chances of staying in the job have also taken a hit following a reported bust-up with Jean-Clair Todibo at half-time of their 5-2 defeat to Arsenal at the London Stadium on 30 November.

The Hammers’ board are likely to turn to an out-of-work manager if Lopetegui is shown the door, with Edin Terzic, Graham Potter, Max Allegri and Sergio Conceicao all under consideration.

Time up for Julen Lopetegui at West Ham United?

With just under 96 hours until Lopetegui’s side are due to face Wolves in what has fast-become a must-win Premier League clash, the next 48 or so are shaping up to be crucial in the club’s short-term future.

If the Hammers board do follow through with the wishes of over 50 per cent of them and give the Spaniard his marching orders, few fans inside the London Stadium would even contemplate complaining.

A 60–40 split in favour of Lopetegui being sacked could increase in the coming days [Kaveh Solekhol, 4 December], as 10 Premier League games take place before West Ham’s outing against Wolves on Monday.

By this time, the Irons could have slipped even closer to the bottom three – which they’re only six points above at present – even with Wolves having been hammered 4-0 by Everton last time out.

The prospect of the Hammers pulling off a big win of their own could see the board rule in Lopetegui’s favour for now, but there aren’t many green shoots to suggest he’s the right long-term fit in East London.

In other West Ham news, Simon Jordan hit back at fans who said Lopetegui would be a transformational appointment in East London.
