West Ham attempted to convince Tammy Abraham to join them last week
West Ham United made fresh contact with Chelsea and the representatives of English striker Tammy Abraham in the past week, according to 90min.
The 23-year-old joined AS Roma on a five-year deal for £34million on Tuesday [BBC] after reaching a decision over the weekend.
The Hammers and some other Premier League sides still held out hope of landing Abraham last week, but he decided to join Jose Mourinho’s side as they made him feel wanted.

Too late
Chelsea initially wanted £40million for Abraham, and Hammers boss David Moyes ruled out doing business for the fee [Sky Sports].
The Blues finally let him go for £34million, and we doubt if West Ham would have been keen to part with that for him.
We have not spent a dime this summer, signing Alphonse Areola on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
The new season started on an impressive note with a 4-2 win over Newcastle United, but we definitely need to land a striker this summer.
Signing another centre-back seems to be of a higher priority given the recent rumours, though, but getting a deal done for one has not been easy too.

It appears we are holding out for bargain deals, and West Ham could be particularly proactive over the next two weeks.
Missing out on Abraham does not hurt, but we cannot afford to get it wrong in our attempt to sign a striker capable of hitting the ground running at the London Stadium.
The Irons need a number 9 capable of playing the style Moyes wants, and hopefully, we can land one before the summer transfer window shuts.
