West Ham are unlikely to bring in a striker on a free before January

West Ham are unlikely to bring in a striker on a free transfer, according to club insider ExWHUemployee.

Speaking on the latest edition of the West Ham Way podcast, Ex claimed that he can’t see the Irons signing a striker outside of the transfer window and that Jarrod Bowen will probably be used as a forward when Michail Antonio isn’t available.

Bowen started the game against Manchester United upfront and impressed, and it appears as if the Irons are going to be content with using him when Antonio is unavailable [The Independent].

Ex said: “A couple of people have asked me whether we’re going to sign a forward on a free transfer.

“I don’t think we will because I think (Jarrod) Bowen today (against Man United), whilst it wasn’t the most accomplished of performances, it wasn’t a bad performance, so I think he can possibly step in if needed.”

Do the Irons need a striker?

Well, if David Moyes doesn’t believe that there are any strikers out there who will improve his squad, then you could argue they don’t.

However, if Antonio were to suffer a serious injury before January, then you would worry about the Irons because Bowen is not a natural striker.

He is a fantastic player and can cause problems for most teams in the Premier League, but how would he cope as a lone striker for a prolonged period of time?

Therefore, you would think that bringing in a player who knows he is a backup wouldn’t be a bad move for the Irons.

However, if Ex doesn’t think it is going to happen, then we also can’t see it happening because he is extremely reliable.

It could be a huge gamble, mind, and we just hope that in the end, it pays off.
