West Ham are interested in signing Feyenoord defender Marcos Senesi

West Ham are keen on signing Feyenoord centre-back Marcos Senesi as they look to make defensive reinforcements, according to 90min.

The Hammers have been dealt huge injury blows at the back, with both Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma out for the long-term, and the 24-year-old Argentine has emerged as a possible transfer target.

West Ham are not the only Premier League club interested in recruiting the services of Senesi, though, with Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Leeds United and Newcastle United watching the defender in recent months, while Roma and Napoli both made contact in the summer.

Great move?

It is unknown whether the Irons will look to sign the South American when the winter transfer window opens next month, but they definitely need to add one centre-back to their ranks.

Senesi has emerged as one of the best defenders in Dutch football since joining Feyenoord in 2019, with Italian football expert and journalist Gianluca DiMarzio dubbing him the “best central defender” in the Eredivisie last August amid reports linking him with a transfer.

West Ham only have Issa Diop and Craig Dawson as their senior centre-back options, and they need to get in a quality defender to keep their top-four and silverware aspirations going during the second half of the campaign.

Senesi has just 18 months left on his current contract at the Netherlands, and the Hammers could have a chance of landing him next month given that a lot of teams want him – which could force his club to cash in on him now when he still has value.
