West Ham are favourites to sign Genk striker Paul Onuachu
West Ham United believe they are favourites in the race for Genk striker Paul Onuachu, according to OwnGoalNigeria.
There has been no sign of a breakdown in talks between the Hammers and the Belgian outfit, but Brighton are also in talks to sign the Nigerian international.
Own Goal Nigeria, who are one of the most respected football websites in Nigeria, claims Genk have told West Ham and the Seagulls that Onuachu’s signature would cost them £26million, but both teams are looking to beat down the fee by including add-ons in the deal.
Decent fee for a quality striker
The 27-year-old ended last season with 35 goals in 41 games across all competitions, with 33 of them coming in the Belgian top-flight.
The Nigerian international won The Golden Boot as a result, and is ready to play in one of the biggest leagues having also proven his quality in Denmark with 74 goals in 181 games.
West Ham need a quality finisher leading their line next term, and the 6ft 7in man could be very suitable for manager David Moyes’ system.
We could do with his aerial prowess and ability to hold-up play excellently well.
Genk are a selling club, and an initial fee of around £20million could be enough to tempt them into selling.
Onuachu’s priority this summer is to move to the Premier League, and West Ham can make that dream come true.
Agreeing on personal terms with him would not be an issue, but the Hammers must find a way to seal a deal with Genk.
