West Ham: Anton Ferdinand shares ‘fantastic’ David Moyes sack verdict after win v Brentford
West Ham United shouldn’t give David Moyes a new contract to extend his stay at the London Stadium this summer, according to Anton Ferdinand.
The Scotsman, who has confirmed that he has been offered a new contract, eased some of the pressure on him from supporters with an excellent 4-2 win over Brentford in the Premier League on Monday (26 February).
Despite that improved attacking display, Ferdinand still doesn’t think Moyes should remain in charge beyond the end of the season and is happy that the 60-year-old hasn’t yet signed his new contract.
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE (28 February, 8:20) he said: “I have never, ever wanted David Moyes out. I’ve always said he deserves to go on his own terms. Would I give him a new contract now? No, I wouldn’t.
“He’s taken ownership of it, there’s a contract on the table but he’s going to wait until the end of the season, which I think is fantastic for him and for the football club.”
Will David Moyes stay at West Ham next season?
West Ham supporters and pundits alike have been incredibly divided over Moyes for some time and it felt as though the Hammers’ winless run of form at the start of 2024 may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back and saw the Scotsman sacked.
But the attacking display against Brentford on Monday night showed that this team are still capable of being a force in the Premier League, especially when they let go of the shackles and attack with creativity and freedom.

If Moyes can replicate that repeatedly between now and the end of the season, he will be more than worthy of his new deal at the London Stadium, but one win and an improved performance will not be enough for most of the fanbase.
Hoped, the win over Brentford is the first in a run of impressive attacking displays. That way, Moyes will be able to make the final decision on his own future before the end of the season.
