West Ham and Aston Villa lose race to Ajax for Rangers left-back Calvin Bassey
Ajax have reportedly beaten West Ham and a host of Premier League clubs to sign Rangers left-back Calvin Bassey.
According to The Athletic, the transfer fee of £20million which with including all the add-ons could come close to the £25million mark – making him a club record sale.
Barring the Hammers, Aston Villa and Brighton were also said to be keen on signing the 22-year-old, but it seems like the Dutch side are now set to get their man.

Major blow
The Nigeria international is on the back of an exceptional domestic and European campaign with the Glasgow giants and would be a terrific fit for Wets Ham.
He was disregarded by Leicester a few years ago and they let go of him only for them to see him grow into one of the SPFL’s best defenders.
Given the Irons’ concerns at left-back, he would’ve been an ideal signing for them – not just because he’s an upgrade on Aaron Cresswell.
Bassey is also an exceptionally good centre-back and it’s hard to distinguish which his preferred role is as he performs splendidly in both positions.
David Moyes certainly would loved to have had him on his side, but West Ham did not make any real efforts to sign him.
With one of their left-back sensations expected to leave this summer and Arthur Masuaku not good enough for the first team, Rob Newman and co need to quickly look for a left-back to bring in before the season begins.
