West Ham agree fee with Chelsea to rope in Potter ally, confirmation this week
West Ham United have reached an agreement with Chelsea to reunite Graham Potter with Kyle Macaulay, according to Matt Law.
The reliable journalist reported via The Telegraph website on 20 January that the clubs have agreed on a compensation deal that will see Potter’s trusted recruitment analyst move to the London Stadium.
Macaulay’s arrival is expected to be confirmed by the Irons this week, with only some paperwork left to be finalised.
The move could hand another blow to technical director Tim Steidten‘s future in East London, although Macaulay is being brought in a different role.
Kyle Macaualay to speed up West Ham transfers
West Ham are yet to make an addition to their ranks despite 19 days of the winter transfer window being already over.
However, Macaulay’s arrival could ramp things up at the London Stadium, considering his relationship with Potter.
The 38-year-old has worked with the Hammers head coach at all of his previous clubs, including Osterunds, Swansea City, Brighton and Chelsea.
Macaulay remained at Stamford Bridge when Potter was sacked as their manager in April 2023, but expressed his desire to reunite with the English tactician in East London when the opportunity arose.
Potter is known for relying on the Scot’s reports on targets before deciding whether or not to sign them – an approach that reaped rewards at Brighton.

Having agreed a compensation deal with Chelsea, West Ham will be hopeful of a similar effect at the London Stadium.
Meanwhile, it would not be a surprise if Steidten is relieved of his duties soon.
David Sullivan is said to have taken more control over recruitment during this winter transfer window, while Karren Brady led negotiations with Potter before his appointment was confirmed.
